The others only become available by transferring the uppers to the tableau or the foundations. In this last case, the player can only move the upper cards out of the three revealed. The Stock reveals one card at a time (Classic Solitaire Klondike) or three cards, for a more challenging game. The player can go through it to find the needed cards to build a pile sequence or to build up the foundations. The Stock pile contains the remaining cards not displayed in the tableau. An empty space in the tableau may only be filled with Kings. Only the upper cards on each pile can be moved to the foundations. The player can do this in two ways: by moving the cards directly to the foundation when the sequence allows it or by transferring the cards to other piles in a sequence of alternating colors and descending order (from King to Ace).įull or partial sequences are moveable within the piles. The player must move the upper cards to reveal the ones immediately below them. Only the upper card of each is revealed, with the others facing down. On the tableau, there are 7 piles of cards. The foundations are built in a set order, starting with the Aces and ending with the Kings. The goal is to move all the cards in the tableau to the four foundations (1 per suite). In a game of Solitaire Klondike, the tableau is divided into 4 main areas: the Piles, the Stock, the Waste (discarded cards from the Stock), and the Foundations. At the dawn of personal computers, the company saw in its simplicity a fun opportunity to help users get acquainted with the movements and mechanics of the mouse.įree from the hassle of shuffling and dealing the cards at each new game, the computerized Solitaire Klondike became a resounding success. Gold prospectors in the area are rumored to have created it and/or popularize it.ĭespite being highly popular ever since the Solitaire Klondike only reached the masses on a large scale after it was included in Microsoft’s Windows 3.0 in 1990. Regardless of its birthplace, the most well-known version of the game, Klondike, is said to have appeared by the end of the 19th century in Canada, in the gold rush region of Klondike. The origins of Solitaire are still a source of debate among historians with many pointing to 19th century France and Germany while others believe its emergence is linked to the spread of the art of divination in Eastern Europe. It is also possible for more players to engage in the game with each taking turns making a move or through a competition to find who can solve the tableau more efficiently. Despite its many variants depending on the disposition of the cards on the tableau, the goal is always to organize and collect the cards in a set order in as few moves as possible and in the quickest time. Solitaire, also known as Patience in many countries, is a single-player card game. The Klondike by Threes is the difficult mode of the game, as it prevents the players from using all the cards in the Stock pile in one go. The Solitaire Klondike itself has two game modes, depending on how the cards on the Stock pile are dealt: This is the game that became so widespread thanks to its inclusion in Windows 3.0 back in 1990 and that has since turned into a symbol of procrastination at work, thanks to its popularity among office workers. Nevertheless, whenever Solitaire is mentioned everyone immediately thinks about one variant: the Klondike. There are several variants included in this category, some of which share nothing with the others except for the use of cards to play them. In reality, the name Solitaire does not refer to a specific game. Young and old alike can appreciate the peacefulness this game provides, so suitable when it comes to clearing their minds and winding down in a moment of stress. Solitaire is one of the most popular card games in the world.

I installed it so I can answer some of the questions I asked above. Tickets, class schedule, instructor list, and more at this link. Today I’m tea ching my “Lightroom Crash Course” Pre-conference session for The Lightroom Conference which officially kicks off tomorrow. Sigh).Īnyway, ya’ll have a kick-butt Monday! □ Anyway, these are just my first impressions, but t’s worth giving it a quick look if thumbnail and preview speed is an issue.ĭon’t forget – tomorrow is Part 4 of my series called “Photoshop for Lightroom Users” which has been going over like a lead balloon (not a single comment on any of them so far. Here’s the link to learn more, and download either their free version or the paid version (you do have to give them a verifiable email, but you knew that was coming, right?). If I’ve got more time, I just wait for Lightroom to mosey through my import, but when speed matters, I think the free version of Narrative Select might be just the ticket. I don’t use a 3rd party application like this for culling every single shoot – just ones where I need to find the best images quickly, or one where I need a particular image and don’t want to do a whole import. All you have to do is click the Import Button and just those picked images now appear in Lightroom. The way I use it is to quickly go through my shoot, make my Picks (you tag them by hitting the letter “T” same as you would in Photo Mechanic), and then when you’re done tagging your Picks, you can “Ship” these images directly over to Lightroom’s import window (see above). It does have some cool features that PM doesn’t have, like a close-up panel that lets you see zoomed-in image detail even closer than a full-size preview, and it can do Eye and focus assessments so you can see which ones aren’t sharp so you don’t waste time when doing your initial culling (though that last part is limited in the free version). It’s very much like a stripped-down version of Photo Mechanic with all its speed and lightning-fast previews (but of course, it doesn’t have many of Photo Mechanic’s more advanced features). That’s why I’m so intrigued with a relatively new program called “Narrative Select.” I ran across it this weekend totally by chance, downloaded the FREE version, and I have to say – it works great thus far. Just about every sports shooter I know uses it because when you’re on a deadline covering games you’ll never hit your deadline if you wait for Lightroom to pokily draw your thumbnails and large previews. No “Loading” message – It’s lightning-fast. I can drag any folder of Raw images onto it and boom – big large size previews on-screen that appear as fast as I can hit my right-arrow key. That’s why I paid $150 for Photo Mechanic – a separate program that lets me see my imported images really fast. If LIghtroom has an Achilles Heel, it’s the speed in which not only thumbnails appear after importing a shoot, but more importantly how long you have to wait to see a large size preview. Residential roof failures, namely failure of roof-to-wall connections (RTWC) and loss of roof sheathing, have been studied extensively due to their high rate of occurrence during extreme wind events. The majority of housing in North America consists of wood-frame, single-family homes ( Amini and van de Lindt, 2014 Standohar-Alfano and van de Lindt, 2016). These are primarily related to the roof and wall cladding systems and the vertical load path between the structural components ( van de Lindt et al., 2013). Significant work has been completed to date to address commonly observed failure modes in residential structures. The resilience of houses during extreme wind events is essential to ensure safety of occupants, minimize damage to internal contents, and lessen the financial burden on communities and insurance providers. The analysis results and damage survey observations are used to expand the understanding of wood-frame residential roof failures, as they relate to the Enhanced Fujita Scale and provide assessment of potential gaps in residential design codes. Furthermore, in the case where the roof-to-wall connection uses hurricane straps, certain framing members and joints become the likely points of failure initiation. However, the results also indicate that certain framing members and connections display significant vulnerability under the same wind uplift, and the possibility of framing failure is not to be discounted. The present analyses verify the common understanding that toenailed roof-to-wall connections are likely to be the most vulnerable elements in the structure of a wood-frame hip roof. Trussed and stick-frame structures are compared to assess the relative performance of the two types of construction. The likelihood of failure in each member is defined based on relative demand-to-capacity ratios. Two-dimensional finite element models are developed to estimate the element-level load effects on hip roof trusses and stick-frame components. In the current study, evidence of partial framing failures and statistics of their occurrence are explored and discussed, while the common roof design and construction practice are reviewed. However, inspection of damage survey data from recent tornadoes has revealed a previously unstudied failure mode in which hip roofs suffer partial failure of the framing structure. Hip roofs are commonly understood to be more resilient during extreme wind in relation to gable roofs. Wood-frame residential roof failures are among the most common and expensive types of wind damage. 2Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Western Ontario, London, ON, Canada.1Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, University of Western Ontario, London, ON, Canada.

LR6 is an improvement, and the latest CC upgrade seems to be a little better still. That doesn't mean you can't make some pretty nice prints with the current sensor. (An XT2 is likely to follow in the summer). That will inevitably lead on to new versions of the other models in time. On the other hand, in the new year they are very likely to be releasing a 'new generation' Xpro2 based on the new Sony 24MP APSC sensor with a ton of AF points. That doesn't matter that much to me, as long as the basic camera controls are easy to access and the optics are good, and in that respect the Fuji's all shine. So I have only one choice to get a great quality APS-C mirrorless system, Fujiįuji gets all the basics right, even though they don't always have the extended features of cameras like the Olympus and Sony models. Honestly, I thought about getting Sony A7000 after it introduced here but I don't trust Sony's Photography Dep.-t in terms how easy they can abandon a current system to jump to another one like it happened to their APS-C cameras compared to their full frame. People say the newest version is more suitable to Fuji RAW files than the previous one or I could bite a bullet and get Capture One. If you want a good non-mainstream developer, you could look at PhotoNinja, but you could also do a lot worse than the free software that can be downloaded from the Fuji website, which is based on Silkypix. Does it work with Windows PC or not? I appreciate your output. I've heard that it's one of the best converters for Fuji RAW files. I plan to get my first Fuji X-T10 with double lens next week but I've heard of the problems with RAW files so I plan to get Iridient Developer as soon as I get my set. Fault segments are also typically arranged en echelon above the upward-propagating strike-slip fault. These structures, open fault segments containing a short tension crack, are termed compound cracks and the short tension crack that propagates from the tip of the fault segment is typically oriented 45? to the trend of the underlying fault. The fault segments are slickensided and striated a few centimeters below the ground surface continued displacement of the landslide causes the fault segments to open and a short tension crack propagates out of one or both ends of the fault segments. Fault segments are discontinuous strike-slip faults that contain the same sense of slip but are turned clockwise or counterclockwise from a few to perhaps 20? from the underlying strike-slip fault. Another common structure that forms above a developing strike-slip fault is a fault segment. The tension cracks are typically arranged en echelon with the row of cracks parallel to the trace of the underlying strike-slip fault. The simplest structure is a tension crack oriented at 45? clockwise or counterclockwise from the trend of an underlying right- or left-lateral strike-slip fault, respectively. Several types of structures are formed at the ground surface as a strike-slip fault, which is fully developed at some depth below the ground surface, propagates upward in response to displacement. Displacement along strike-slip faults commonly produces scarps scarps occur where local relief of the failure surface or ground surface is displaced and becomes adjacent to higher or lower ground, or where the landslide is thickening or thinning as a result of internal deformation. Fault surfaces are slickensided, and striations are subparallel to the ground surface. The strike-slip faults in landslides are nearly vertical but locally may dip a few degrees toward or away from the moving ground. We observed the formation of thwse strike-slip faults and associated structures at two large landslides in central Utah during 1983-1985. Large landslides are bounded on their flanks and on elements within the landslides by structures analogous to strike-slip faults.
